Attitude...Do we celebrate the end of the year or the begining of a new one?

In the city of Cologne, the western part of Deutschland,Silvestre,as New year's eve is known in that part of the world,is a great celebration which brings together people from all parts of the city. The climax of which coincides with the clock reading 00:00 as a new year is ushered in.All this takes place on the bridge over the river Rhein.Such parties are common not just in Germany but all around the world. It is a party time that brings together alot of religious denominations as,with the exception of the Chinese,it cuts across most of the strained religious divides.

Being a proud resident of Lusaka,i too participated in a fireworks display,a huge party in its own right at a prominent outting place in the City of Lusaka as the clock turned 00:00 ushering in the year 2010.A popular local artist,Danny, had a few years back done a track that talked about people's doubts as to whether they would ever reach the year 2010 with the hardships and AIDS pandemic of the time and indeed even todays.2010 came with the renewed belief that if we soldier on,even the sky isnt high enough a limit.

The question that lingered in my mind at that party and even today is whether we are celebrating the end of a year or the beginning of a new one.Are we happy that 2010 is gone with all its problems and successes or are we happy for the new year and the promises it comes with.....

The answer to that question says alot about the attitude we have about life, whether progressive or we are merely floating through the year.......what do you think?
